Send Sarees & Indian Traditional Wear to South Korea (2026): Rules, Packing & Cost

Key takeaways

  • Clothing is unrestricted for personal use and clears fast under simplified list clearance.
  • Volumetric weight matters — heavy lehengas and boxes fill up; fold flat and vacuum-bag to save cost.
  • Protect zari, sequins and beadwork with tissue and a rigid box so embellishments don't crush.
  • Ships from ₹749/kg all-inclusive DDP, 5–8 days door-to-door.

Quick answer — clothing is easy to ship

Sarees, lehengas, kurtas, sherwanis and all Indian traditional wear ship freely to South Korea for personal use and clear fast under simplified list clearance. The only things to manage are volumetric weight (bulky sets fill a box) and protecting delicate embellishments. Rates start at ₹749/kg all-inclusive DDP with 5–8 day delivery.

Why clothes clear so easily

Ordinary garments are unregulated for personal import — no permits, no quarantine. A clear 'clothing' description with quantities is all customs need, so parcels move on the fast track with the recipient's PCCC.

Keeping the cost down: volumetric weight

Air parcels bill the higher of actual and volumetric weight (L×W×H÷5000). A single bridal lehenga can be light but bulky. Fold flat, use a vacuum bag to compress, and pick a snug box so you're billed on real weight, not air.

Protecting delicate work

Zari, sequins, mirror-work and heavy embroidery crush and snag. Lay acid-free tissue in every fold, wrap embellished panels, and use a rigid box so nothing gets compressed in transit. For silk sarees, avoid tight rubber bands that leave marks.

Tax on high-value sets

A designer bridal set can exceed the USD 150 CIF duty-free line. If it does, DDP lets us pre-pay duty and 10% VAT and quote one landed price, so the recipient isn't surprised. Everyday kurtas and casual wear usually stay under the threshold.

Gifts and new items

Sending new, tagged clothes as a wedding or festival gift is fine — keep them sealed, declare as personal gifts, and stay within the value threshold to avoid tax. Include a note if it's a surprise; it doesn't affect clearance.

Booking and bulk
